Private School Tuition Dispute in Morocco Awaits Competition Council Ruling

The decision of the Competition Council on the dispute between parents of students and private school owners is eagerly awaited for a school year without incident. This opinion should be issued in the coming days.
Several aspects of the dispute are being reviewed by the Council. These include "insurance rights, tuition fees, the nature of monthly tasks in the event of a health emergency or non-schooling". On the subject, Noureddine Akoury, president of the National Federation of Parents’ Associations in Morocco (ANAPEM), told Hespress that he had submitted a detailed memorandum to the Competition Council committee on the differences between families and private schools. He added that the Competition Council "had not found any legal framework linking the State to private education".
The president of ANAPEM also sounded the alarm on certain forms of registration contracts for the next academic year popularized on social networks, which they describe as "illegal registration contracts". He called on families not to sign this type of contract, stressing that "the right of students to schooling is guaranteed by the Constitution of the Kingdom and by all international conventions".
During a meeting last week with the Prime Minister and the Minister of National Education, the heads of private schools expressed "their outright rejection of distance learning for the next season", not having been satisfied with the experience lived, especially since "the families had not paid the tuition fees". Private schools have also hinted that they would be declared "bankrupt in the event that the State imposes distance learning for the next school year in the event of a prolonged health crisis," the same source said.
