Private School Parents Protest in Morocco, Demand Administrative Reforms

The hatchet between parents of students and private schools is far from being buried. To express their anger, parents of students organized a day of protest, this Wednesday from 10 a.m.

In a statement published online, these parents of students demand from the external services of these establishments the administrative documents concerning their children, reports Ahdath Al Maghribia. They call on the Minister of National Education to assume his responsibilities by withdrawing the authorizations he had previously granted to private institutions.

According to the Federation of Parents of Students, these establishments persist in violating the law and denying their commitments to apply the administrative procedures in force. It thus expresses its extreme concern in the face of these abuses and these attacks on the right of children to education. According to the same source, some private schools refuse to provide students with school reports, end-of-year results, baccalaureate diplomas, and departure certificates.

In addition to these violations of the law, these establishments also resort to blackmail by refusing to re-enroll students if their parents do not pay the tuition fees, the subject of the dispute that opposes the two parties. According to the same statement, several court decisions condemn this refusal and confirm the right of the student and his guardian to withdraw the administrative documents from the private establishments.

The Federation also regrets that the Ministry of National Education has paid little attention to the letter it sent it on July 17. In this correspondence, the Federation invited the Amzazi department to intervene urgently to put an end to the ordeal inflicted by private schools on students and their guardians. They did not fail to make him understand that the owners of these establishments are undermining the rights of students, nevertheless guaranteed by the Constitution, the international conventions signed by the kingdom, as well as law 06-00 forming the status of private school education.
