Private Higher Education in Morocco Surges as Enrollment Tops 50,000 Students

Moroccan students are increasingly interested in private education. According to the Ministry of Higher Education, the private sector has just crossed the 50,000 student mark enrolled in higher education cycles in Morocco.
More than 51,000 students would be enrolled in the 400 private higher education institutions in Morocco. An upcoming report from the Ministry of Higher Education on the 2019/2020 academic year will certainly confirm these figures, which represent a quantitative leap of nearly 10,000 students in just four years.
This performance, according to challenge.ma, is the result of a public-private partnership. By field, studies in Business and Management still top the rankings, with nearly 24,000 students, or nearly 47% of the total, but it is the Health Sciences field that has seen the greatest growth rate in the last two years with the entry into force of new private medical schools within the Private University of Marrakech and the Mundiapolis University of Casablanca.
Even if the number of enrollments in private institutions at the higher level has somewhat increased, it remains that major efforts still need to be made. When we compare the total enrollment of students enrolled in the various higher education institutions in Morocco, the share of the private sector seems to be below the 5% mark, while for primary and secondary education, it has been on a constant rise for more than 10 years, the same source specifies.
