Residents of the Meziara douar, in the province of Taounate, had to transport a woman about to give birth in a coffin to the small hospital in Ghafsai.
Mourad Zeghari had to call on his neighbors to carry the coffin in which he had laid his wife, to the nearest health center, which is 4 kilometers away.
The rest was not easy for the young woman, her husband confesses, accusing the local authorities of having done nothing to assist her, especially since she was forced to walk back home.
The lack of maternity centers is still a problem in Morocco, especially in remote areas. This lack of health infrastructure is the main cause of maternal and infant mortality.
