Power Outage in Europe Disrupts Dozens of Flights to and from Morocco

Dozens of flights departing from and arriving at Moroccan airports were cancelled or delayed on Monday due to the massive power outage in Spain, Portugal, and parts of France.
More than 50 flights to and from Moroccan airports with airports in Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Germany, England, Ireland, Italy, and Switzerland had to be cancelled on Monday. According to data from the National Airports Office (ONDA), 30 flights departing from and arriving at Moroccan airports were cancelled on Monday, as well as 22 flights bound for Morocco. Many others experienced delays.
Among the cancelled flights, those from and to Spanish airports (Madrid, Malaga, Seville...) top the list. They are followed by France (Paris, Marseille, Toulouse, Nice...), Portugal (Lisbon, Porto), Belgium (Brussels), Switzerland (Geneva), Germany (Frankfurt), England (London and Manchester), Italy (Milan), and Ireland (Dublin). The affected Moroccan airports include Casablanca, Marrakech, Tangier, Rabat, Agadir, Fez, Nador, and Tetouan. In terms of airlines, the majority of cancelled flights are from Ryanair, EasyJet, TUI Fly, and the Portuguese airline TP.
On the other hand, Royal Air Maroc and Air Arabia flights were apparently not affected by this situation. None of their flights were cancelled. In a statement released on Monday, ONDA announced disruptions to the flight registration system and boarding pass issuance, explaining that these inconveniences "are due to the widespread power outage experienced by the Iberian Peninsula’s electrical network, which affected international connections used by some telecom operators, particularly their connections via computer servers located in Spain."
The office assured that its teams are working hard to restore the situation as quickly as possible. While waiting for a return to normal, check-in and boarding operations at airports can be carried out manually, ONDA added, specifying that its services remain available to passengers to provide necessary assistance.
