Portugal-Morocco Ferry Service Canceled as Delta Variant Surges

Announced for early July, the launch of the maritime line between Tangier and Portimão has been canceled. The resurgence of Covid-19 cases due to the Delta variant in Portugal is behind this cancellation.
Bad news for Moroccans residing in Portugal and other European countries. The maritime line between the ports of Portimão (Portugal) and Tangier (Morocco), which was to be operational on July 1, 2021, has been canceled after an epidemic outbreak due to the Delta variant, considered highly contagious.
Portugal is facing a resurgence of the number of infections in recent days (nearly 2,500 on July 1 due to the contagiousness of the Delta variant. The Portuguese authorities have also reinstated the ban on public circulation after 11 p.m. in forty-five municipalities, including Lisbon and Porto, in order to curb this variant.
In Morocco, the situation is far from rosy. The Ministry of Health has called on citizens to comply with the health measures enacted to curb the spread of the coronavirus and its variants in the kingdom. As of July 3, the report shows 533,945 cases of contamination, 519,139 recoveries and 9,315 deaths.
