Portugal and Morocco Sign Agreement to Facilitate Moroccan Workers’ Employment

Morocco and Portugal have decided to strengthen their cooperation by signing an agreement on the employment and stay of Moroccan workers in Portugal.
During the signing ceremony organized by videoconference, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Portuguese counterpart Augusto Santos Silva reiterated their commitment to work for the proper management of regular migratory flows between the two countries, according to a press release.
The document signed falls within the framework of the modernization of the partnership instruments between the two countries and aims to respond to the growing demand of Moroccan workers by defining the admission and residence procedures applicable to Moroccan citizens for the exercise of a professional activity in Portugal.
Thus, a process of selection and recruitment of workers, the general conditions of work and training, family reunification and social security and taxation is now in place.
The National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC) and its Portuguese counterpart, the IEFP, will be responsible for the implementation of its provisions, under the supervision of the relevant government authorities.
For the record, Morocco is the second country to sign this type of agreement with Portugal, after India. It provides for a Joint Commission composed of representatives of the competent authorities of the two parties to ensure monitoring and regular exchange of information.
