Pollution Plagues Tangier Beaches, Lawmaker Warns of Health and Tourism Risks

Salwa Damnati, deputy of the socialist group and also member of the municipal council of Tangier, declared that several beaches of the city are polluted and it is impossible to swim there.
The beaches of Malabata, Merkala and Playa are at the top of the list of polluted beaches, deplored Damnati on Monday in her question addressed to the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, during a session at the House of Representatives, stating that the unsanitary condition of these beaches is detrimental to the image and reputation of the city of Tangier.
The socialist MP also denounced the delay in the treatment of wastewater, a situation that constitutes a danger, not only for the groundwater, but also and above all for the health of the inhabitants of the city, since these waters are discharged into the rivers and the beaches.
