Police Arrest 16 in Meknes Extortion Ring Targeting Bus Station Travelers

The Fez police arrested 16 individuals, aged 25 to 52, on Saturday in Meknes for their alleged involvement in acts of extortion and threats to commit crimes and offenses against persons and property.
The suspects, most of whom have criminal records, were arrested during security operations carried out simultaneously in several neighborhoods of Meknes, for their alleged links with criminal networks involved in extortion and threatening citizens, by relieving them of sums of money at the city’s bus station that they use for their travels, the same source said.
According to the initial elements of the investigation, the accused would have exploited illegal parking lots for the extortion of drivers and road transport professionals whom they forced to pay sums of money without legal justification.
The suspects were taken into custody and made available to the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office in order to elucidate the ins and outs of this case and determine the possible ramifications of this criminal activity, the same source added.
