Plastic Surgeon Defends Wife in Ongoing Fraud Appeal Trial

Sunday 2 February 2025, by Sylvanus

The appeal trial of plastic surgeon Dr. Hassan Tazi, sentenced on May 3 to three years in prison, two of which were firm and one suspended, and then released, and his co-defendants, continues before the Court of Appeal of Casablanca.

If Dr. Hassan Tazi has regained his freedom after spending two years in prison, his wife Mounia Benchekroun, who was sentenced to four years in prison, is still in prison. During his hearing at the Casablanca court last Friday, the famous surgeon accused of fraud alongside his family and staff, after the abandonment of the initial charge of human trafficking, defended his wife. He "clearly absolved his spouse and children of any responsibility for the events that took place," reports Hespress. According to him, his wife is in no way involved in the financial aspects of his clinic, Al-Chifa. He stated that he is the only one managing the finances of the establishment and that he has always worked for the well-being of his patients.

Tazi firmly rejected the fraud allegations against his clinic due to a collaboration between his wife and a certain "Zineb.B", who presents herself as a benefactor. My clinic is not a fraud center, he hammered, revealing that many patients frequent Al-Chifa, but many of them are unable to pay for their treatments. "My only intention is to assist these patients, not to deceive them," he further assured. The doctor also refuted the allegations that he had received funds. These are "unfounded slanders," he denounced. "Where are the plaintiffs? Where are these influential benefactors who would have been deceived? No complaint has been filed," he argued.

Tazi also stressed that the directors of his clinic are responsible for the daily operations. "I have placed my trust in them to ensure the smooth running of the administrative activities. If I had been informed of the slightest irregularity, I would have acted accordingly," he specified.
