PJD Member’s Trial Resumes in 1993 Moroccan Student Murder Case
Tuesday 23 November 2021, by
The trial of the PJD member Abdelali Hamieddine, prosecuted for complicity in the 1993 murder of a young left-wing student Benaissa Aït El Jid, resumes on November 23 at the Court of Appeal of Fez. Postponed several times, the time has certainly come to settle a file that has been dragging on to the great distress of the victim’s parents and relatives.
The judicial saga of the murder case of Benaissa Aït El Jid has resumed following the emergence of new elements. These are the revelations made by Khaddioui El Khammar, implicating Abdelali Hamieddine in the student’s murder. The sole witness to this murder, his justified absence had caused the postponement to November 23, the trial that was to be held on June 29, reports the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
The postponement was not to the liking of the defendant’s defense, reviving tensions between the two parties. It took the intervention of lawyer Ali Hedrouni to remind the two parties that the differences over a postponement were not such as to advance the case. He also insisted that the presence of the sole witness, Khaddioui El Khammar, at the hearing was fundamental and that nothing could proceed without his testimony.
In this case that has been shaking public opinion for nearly thirty years, Abdelali Hamieddine could end up in prison if it is established that he was involved in this murder for which the victim’s family is demanding justice and reparation.
