New Parking Fees Spark Outrage in Morocco’s Popular Beach Town Harhoura

The municipal council of Harhoura, a seaside resort attached to the prefecture of Skhirate-Témara, which welcomes many tourists every summer, imposes prohibitive parking rates for cars. This has provoked the anger of motorists.
Car owners must now pay to park in Harhoura. This is the decision of the municipal council. It has created a pricing system for vehicles. The rates range from 5 dirhams for less than an hour to 23 dirhams for 24 hours, with an additional 1 dirham for each additional hour. The monthly subscription has been set at 400 dirhams for daytime parking and 500 dirhams for nighttime parking.
These rates are not well received by motorists. They are asking all components of the Harhoura municipal council to hold an extraordinary session to vote for the free parking of cars and motorcycles located on all streets and public spaces in this coastal town. They believe that this decision could have positive effects for all citizens, whether summer visitors who frequent the beaches of Harhoura daily during the summer or local residents of this town. It would also eliminate all forms of disorder and anarchy that characterize car and motorcycle parking.
