Parents Sue Moroccan Government Over Sudden School Closures Amid COVID-19 Concerns

The government’s decision to close all schools in Casablanca and those in high-risk areas in other regions is not to the liking of the Angry Parents Collective. The members of this collective believe that the decision does not take into account the current realities.
The collective goes further and files a lawsuit against the executive for "abuse of power". Speaking to 2M.ma, Leila Benjelloun, press officer of the collective, explains that the decision was sudden and did not take into account the impact on students, teachers and parents. "The children are left to their own devices today and this decision does not prevent them from going out, they are always in the street which is also a place of virus propagation," she added.
From the collective’s reflection, the government could have bet on the strict observance of preventive measures and barrier gestures and spared students and their parents the inconvenience caused by this decision. "The consequences of this decision on our children, on our professional activities and on the future of our country will be irreparable," warns the collective in the open letter addressed to the Minister in charge.
The members say they no longer approve of distance learning, which has shown its limits despite the involvement of families and the teaching staff, the same source specifies.
