Parents Demand 50% Tuition Cut at French Schools in Morocco Amid COVID-19 Crisis

The independent collective of parents of students is upset with the Office scolaire et universitaire international (OSUI) and the Mission laïque française (MLF). In a letter addressed to the heads of the two structures, this collective is asking, among other things, for a 50% reduction in third-quarter tuition fees.
This collective, set up during this health crisis due to covid-19, has about a hundred parents whose children are enrolled in OSUI and MLF network establishments. In the letter addressed on May 8 to the general director of the OSUI-MLF network, Jean-Christophe Deberrre, the parents of students ask to benefit from a reduction if the confinement is extended. "The fees paid will cover all the charges reserved for staff salaries according to the figures published in your last activity report, not to mention the savings made by the closure of your establishments in Morocco."
In addition to the 50% reduction in third-quarter tuition fees, parents are also demanding "the cancellation of tuition fee increases for the next five years." They put forward as an argument to justify this demand "that they will not be able to honor additional commitments, given the announced economic crisis".
The letter also indulged in criticism of the distance learning program. The independent collective of parents points out that not only "the cumulative hours of distance learning are well below the current schedules", but also that "the teaching of living languages, in particular Arabic, is almost non-existent for kindergarten and primary school".
Parents also criticize the use of a "platform discouraged by the authorities in charge of information system security in Morocco and with known and criticized limits by parents," the same source specifies.
