Panic Buying Sweeps Morocco as Coronavirus Fears Mount

Many Moroccans have stormed the stores of distribution chains to stock up on sufficient consumer products before a lockdown is declared. The fear of the coronavirus is very present.
The rush to the stores of distribution chains has been observed in the kingdom in recent days. Although the government has assured that there will be no supply problem in the market, many Moroccans seem not to believe it. On Friday, they were still numerous to make voluminous purchases.
In a press release, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy assured that the supply of the most consumed processed products can largely cover the needs of households. Including during the month of Ramadan when household consumption explodes.
The ministry’s services conduct daily surveys of the local market, as well as surveys of producers and importers of the most consumed processed products (sugar, tea, milk, edible oil, butter, etc.) to ensure the abundance of these products, it is specified. In the same dynamic, the ministry has banned the export of hygiene products such as hydroalcoholic solutions to guarantee their availability on the national market.
Similarly, consumer service desks available in the different regions of the kingdom as well as the portal "www.khidmat-almostahlik.ma" are made available to citizens to receive and handle any complaint related to the supply of markets and the quality of products on sale.
