Pakistani Officials Probe Moroccan Embassy for Alleged Customs Fraud

The Moroccan Embassy in Islamabad is suspected by the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs of being involved in a case of fraud and illegal importation of goods.
On August 16, the Embassy, under the cover of diplomatic immunity, had proceeded to import a cargo of 26 tons of goods, originating from the Port of Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates, without prior authorization from the supervisory Ministry.
By appealing to the Customs Administration, the Pakistani Ministry wished to verify the compliance of the goods, which had benefited from the exemption of customs duties, with the laws in force.
Questioned, the Ambassador of the Kingdom in Pakistan declared that he was unaware of this operation that his Embassy categorically denies. An investigation is currently underway to verify the substance of these allegations.
