US Overtakes France as Top Foreign Investor in Morocco, Pumping $761 Million into Economy

The United States has become Morocco’s top foreign investor in 2022, dethroning France. The kingdom is experiencing an explosion of private investment.
American investments accounted for 30% of foreign investments in Morocco in 2022, with projects exceeding 7.4 billion dirhams ($761 million or €684 million). With these figures, the United States has outpaced France, which was the main foreign investor in Morocco with 3.3 billion dirhams ($339 million or €305 million), reports Huffington Post.
In addition to the United States and France, the United Kingdom with 2.9 billion dirhams ($298 million or €268 million), the United Arab Emirates with 2.5 billion dirhams ($257 million or €231 million) and the Netherlands with 1.54 billion dirhams ($154 million or €142 million) are among the largest investors in the kingdom.
These five countries alone account for 80.8% of foreign investments in Morocco. The manufacturing industry (43%), real estate (25%) and finance and insurance (11%) sectors have benefited the most from these investments.
