28 Killed, Over 2,000 Injured in Moroccan Urban Traffic Accidents Last Week

28 people were killed and 2,031 others were injured, including 77 seriously, in 1,526 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas during the week of September 16 to 22.
This human tragedy that has saddened and bereaved several Moroccan families is due to several factors: driver inattention, failure to yield the right-of-way, pedestrian inattention, speeding, failure to maintain a safe following distance, changing direction without using a signal, unauthorized lane changes, and failure to stop at stop signs.
In addition, other reasons justify these accidents: loss of control, driving under the influence, failure to obey traffic signals, driving in the left lane, improper passing, and driving the wrong way, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a statement.
The same source reports that with regard to control operations and the repression of offenses, the security services recorded 50,725 tickets and drew up 13,778 reports that were submitted to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. In addition, 36,947 transaction fines were collected.
The amounts collected reached 7,308,650 dirhams. In addition, a total of 5,466 vehicles were impounded in the municipal pound, not counting the seizure of 7,990 documents and the withdrawal from circulation of 322 vehicles.
