Outrage in Morocco as Woman Carried on Coffin Due to Lack of Ambulance

A video showing a sick woman being transported on a coffin as a stretcher has caused outrage in Morocco. The incident took place in the commune of Aït Tamlil, in the province of Azilal.
The Federation of the League of Women’s Rights of the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region reacted strongly by issuing a statement condemning this "shocking incident".
For the association, this situation shows "the suffering of women in the remote areas of Morocco", pointing to "marginalization, the weakness of health services and the lack of means of transport". Far from being an isolated case, this affair illustrates, according to the Federation, "the gap between the announced policies and the daily reality". The lack of implementation of certain programs, such as the Rural Development Fund, would exacerbate the precariousness of the inhabitants of these areas, especially that of women.
Faced with this alarming situation, the Federation is calling for concrete measures. It calls for "strengthening infrastructure" and "establishing an efficient transport network" to allow access to basic services. It also demands "the opening of an investigation" to determine responsibilities and "sanction those responsible for this negligence".
Beyond sanctions, the association insists on the need to "guarantee the human dignity of women" and calls for "placing human dignity and social justice at the heart of public policies". It urges "all the institutions concerned to intervene immediately" and to implement "development programs that strengthen the rights of citizens to a dignified life".
