Oujda Residents Demand Action as Drug Den Café Plagues Neighborhood

The city of Oujda is plagued by insecurity. A café attracting drug addicts and gamblers threatens the safety, even the lives of the residents of the "Al Mir" residence, in front of apparently powerless authorities.
Drug addicts and gamblers, this is the lot of the regulars of this café located in the middle of the "Al Mir" residence, on the road to Taza, where the residents hoped to enjoy a rather secure environment for their children.
The many complaints, claims and petitions addressed to the competent authorities have done nothing; the café remains open. One of the residents does not hide his dismay at the inability of the authorities to close this disturbing café, according to Hespress.
A first closure occurred in 2018, to the great relief of the entire population; only it was short-lived. And the café was authorized to reopen with a firm ban on consuming "shisha" there, as well as a ban on the use of manual gaming machines and the obligation to respect the closing hours.
In practice, none of these measures are respected. Despite numerous emails to the Secretary General and even the Ministry of the Interior, nothing has changed.
On the contrary, the district Caid, who wrote a detailed report on the illegal activities within the café, recommending its closure, had received a verbal warning after being summoned to the central administration, concludes the same source.
