US Opens Market to Moroccan Raspberries After Food Safety Agreement

Moroccan raspberries can now access the American market. This decision comes after the signing of the operational action plan between the Moroccan Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) and the United States Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
This authorization is the result of negotiations between the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests in Morocco and its American counterpart, said a press release from ONSSA on Tuesday.
According to the same source, the American authorities require that this fruit be packaged in the packaging units authorized by ONSSA. They also require that any export must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by the Office, certifying that the fruits have been produced and packaged in accordance with the applicable requirements.
More than 140,000 tons of berries are exported by Morocco to more than 40 countries, including European Union member countries.
