ONSSA Cracks Down on Livestock Breeders Ahead of Eid al-Adha 2019

While some will spend Eid al-Adha 2019 in complete tranquility, it will not be the case for some breeders who have acted in bad faith. The National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) has decided to summon them to court, due to major oversights noted during its many checks.
The ONSSA press release takes stock of the results of the institution’s latest outings. A total of 236,000 breeding and fattening units have been registered with the ONSSA veterinary services, an increase of 71% compared to last year.
The press release indicates that to date, ONSSA services have carried out 658 control outings, taken 381 samples of animal feed, 500 samples of meat and 25 samples of water for analysis, and issued 331 passes for poultry droppings. It appears that at the end of these checks, 10 reports of offenses were drawn up and sent to the justice system.
ONSSA specifies that 3 cases concern the use of poultry droppings for animal fattening, in the regions of Casablanca and Rabat. In addition, 7 others relate to the sale of veterinary drugs, in weekly markets, of unknown origin or without authorization, in the regions of Marrakech, the Oriental, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Béni Mellal-Khénifra, the same source said.
In terms of measures, ONSSA mentions the creation of 30 additional markets, including 8 newly established this year, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior, "to strengthen the marketing network for sheep and goats". To this will be added the "Al gazar Diali" campaign, through which training and awareness-raising of butchers will be carried out.
ONSSA also reassures that more than 300 veterinary doctors and technicians, whose list will be published on its website, will be available during the Eid al-Adha period to respond to the many information requests from the population, who also have a number (0801003637) to express their requests.
