Online Shopping Scams Surge in Morocco During Pandemic Lockdown

Hundreds of Moroccans have been victims of scams when shopping online since the start of the lockdown. Following numerous complaints, the police are currently investigating.
The health crisis related to Covid-19 has caused an explosion in online sales. Unfortunately, many customers have been victims of scams when purchasing on e-commerce sites or Facebook pages and groups. In Morocco, the victims are counted by hundreds, reports Al Massae.
Customers place orders but receive other items. Deceptions about the merchandise or payments collected but items never received are legion. To these practices is added the hacking of customers’ personal and banking data.
Faced with the scale of the phenomenon, several victims have filed complaints. The police are currently conducting investigations to arrest the perpetrators or owners of the sites. The only problem: most of the incriminated sites are based abroad.
