Olive Vendor in Rabat Stands Firm Against Extremist’s Demand to Play Quran

A radicalized Salafist, who spent ten years in prison for terrorism, attacked an olive vendor in Rabat. He asked him to replace the Oum Kalthoum cassette with a recitation of the Quran.
The olive vendor did not give in to the Salafist’s request. "You should know that the best way to listen to the Quran is to be focused. But I am in direct contact with customers and I am constantly talking to them: I therefore find it indecent to broadcast the Quran in such a situation," retorted the merchant. Annoyed, the fundamentalist publicly threatened him with death, reports Assabah.
Not only did the Salafist describe the merchant as an infidel, but he also accused him of insulting the Prophet Muhammad. Worse, he tried to incite the crowd against the olive vendor.
In light of the fundamentalist’s past, the merchant took the death threats seriously. He filed a complaint with the police who listened to him. A report will be drawn up before he is brought before the public prosecutor.
