Notorious Drug Lord's $7 Million Wedding Sparks Manhunt in Morocco

Moussa Azghanghan, better known as Moussa Le Rifain, one of the most wanted drug traffickers in the world, celebrated his wedding in grand style last August in the city of Zeghanghane, near Nador in Morocco. He reportedly managed to flee with his wife before the intervention of the Moroccan police forces.

Drug barons from the Netherlands, Belgium, France or Spain, as well as celebrities and politicians, took part in these festivities in Zeghanghane, one of the most important cities in the war between the Rif people and the Spanish. The head of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi, got wind of this lavish celebration that went viral on TikTok, according to Moroccan sources consulted by El Independiente, specifying that this wedding cost nearly 7 million euros. The fees of artists such as Dounia Batma, Adil El Miloudi, Badr Sultan, Cheb El Miloud and veterans Najat Aatabou and Zina Daoudia, who performed on this occasion, amounted to 200,000 euros.

The National Brigade of Judicial Police (BNPJ) of Casablanca carried out two raids on the premises, arresting 34 people and seizing the firearms displayed during the wedding procession. The accused were transferred to the headquarters of the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations in Salé for questioning. Moussa was not among these detainees. "The drug trafficking leaders were not arrested, despite the announcements of arrests. Hammouchi intervened, because some wanted drug traffickers attended the wedding and arrived in luxury cars. The press and the population began to wonder how these traffickers had entered Morocco and why they had not been arrested," says a Morocco specialist who believes that "the situation got out of hand" for the Moroccan authorities.

Wanted for hashish trafficking, Moussa, 27, is also the subject of dozens of arrest warrants for murder, illegal immigration and financial crimes. His wife Mariam was also not among the people arrested. She reportedly managed to flee with her husband. "Moussa fled with his wife to the Spanish coast after the intervention of the security forces. He received a call to escape to Spain and is now somewhere in Europe," the same sources point out.
