Notorious Belgian Prison Escapee Faces Drug Trafficking Trial in Morocco

Accused in a case of international drug trafficking, the Belgian-Moroccan Ashraf Sekkaki is awaiting his upcoming appearance before the Court of Appeal of Rabat.
After postponement of the first hearing due to his refusal to appear remotely, the trial of Ashraf Sekkaki will open in early September before the Court of Appeal of Rabat, reports the Arabic-language daily Al Akhbar. The one who is nicknamed in Belgium "the king of escape" for having escaped from prison on several occasions is being prosecuted as part of a case of international drug and psychotropic trafficking. A traffic that he is suspected of having coordinated with the complicity of a brother and the boss of an international transport company from the prison of Salé, where he is currently serving a 4-year prison sentence handed down at first instance.
In 2017, the security services stationed in Nador had, during the search of a bus, seized more than 73,000 psychotropic tablets - hidden inside unaccompanied luggage - coming from Brussels. The operation to hand over these bags to the recipients had resulted in the arrest of two suspects.
Described as one of the most dangerous criminals in the world because of his involvement in numerous robberies and kidnappings, Ashraf Sekkaki had in 2011 received twelve years in prison for his escape from the prison of Bruges. What fate will be reserved for him at the end of his trial before the Court of Appeal of Rabat?
