Nivea Ad Sparks Outrage in Morocco Over World Cup Face Paint Image

The German skincare brand Nivea has drawn the wrath of Internet users after a controversial advertisement targeting Morocco.
In trying to promote a new product, Nivea provoked the anger of Moroccan Internet users by having a woman pose with the Moroccan flag painted on her face with a slight smile. The photo also shows the score (2-0) of the match between Morocco and France in the World Cup semi-finals, with the caption: "Nivea supports 100% the most titled African nation, 0% regret. With Nivea Micellar Water 0% Residue, you can free your skin from face paint and tears, leaving your skin clean and ready to cheer for your team again."
"I would understand if this was done for all teams before the semi-finals, but it’s scandalous," reacted one Internet user on Twitter. Another Internet user criticizes the fact that Nivea did not realize this advertisement after Germany’s early elimination, but chose to troll Morocco and Croatia despite the good performances of the two countries in Qatar. "Nivea posts this on Instagram expecting to see or receive no backlash? You only post on Croatia and Morocco? Why not post on Germany? Argentina? Or other big countries? Once people started sharing this and saying they should be canceled, they delete the posts."
