Nigeria Sends 200 Young Farmers Abroad for Agricultural Training

Nigeria has sent 200 young farmers to Morocco and Israel to undergo a capacity building training on crop production and livestock.
This week, the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has issued travel documents to 200 young farmers to undertake a capacity building trip on crop production and livestock in Israel and Morocco, reports Punchng. This training is part of the continuation of the National Young Farmers Scheme (NYFS), recently inaugurated by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, said the NALDA Executive Secretary, Prince Paul Ikonne, during the ceremony to hand over the travel documents held in Abuja.
The objective of this six-day training is to make agriculture more attractive to young people. These young farmers from the 36 states of the federation will therefore undergo intensive training on greenhouse cultivation and livestock farming. They are divided into two groups of 100 young people. One group will go to Israel to receive training on greenhouse management and agricultural production techniques, while the second group will go to Morocco to receive training on livestock and meat processing.
Why the choice of Morocco and Israel? "We are sending them to countries that we know have strong expertise in what we are doing, namely Israel and Morocco, in order to improve their knowledge and expose them to modern practices in crop production and livestock," explained Prince Paul Ikonne. Upon their return to the country, these young people will in turn train the farmers in their state and locality.
