Nigeria’s Kano State Seeks $10 Billion Investment Boost Through Moroccan Partnerships

The Nigerian state of Kano is counting on Morocco for the success of its investment project aimed at mobilizing more than 10 billion dollars over the next five years, in the sectors of renewable energies and solid mineral resources. To this end, it intends to sign memorandums of understanding with Moroccan institutions such as MASEN, OCP and the Casablanca Chamber of Commerce.
Several memorandums of understanding (MoU) will soon be signed with the Kingdom of Morocco, said Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, communication advisor to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in a statement relayed by Dailynigerian. These agreements will cover the areas of energy, agriculture and trade, as part of a vast program of economic recovery and transformation of the State, it is specified.
This announcement follows an investment mission recently conducted in Morocco by the Governor of Kano. The Nigerian delegation met with several strategic Moroccan institutions, including the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN), OCP Africa, as well as the Casablanca Chamber of Commerce.
According to Dawakin-Tofa, the agreements to be signed will also cover the identification of investors, innovative financing models and the transfer of advanced technologies for energy storage and distribution, particularly in the industrial sector. According to him, the Casablanca Chamber of Commerce, considered one of the main private sector hubs in Africa, has expressed its willingness to collaborate with the State of Kano in the fields of green energy and mining.
"This partnership should boost the state’s economy and help achieve our goal of attracting up to $10 billion in investments over five years," said Dawakin-Tofa. Another stage of this visit: a meeting with the leaders of OCP Africa, a global fertilizer production giant. The company welcomed the initiative and proposed several agricultural projects, including the creation of fertilizer blending plants, the establishment of modernized supply chains, and technical support for small farmers through advanced technologies.
Another highlight of this visit: MASEN, the Moroccan agency managing the giant solar power plant in Ouarzazate (500 MW), proposed technical cooperation to support the Light-Up Kano Initiative program, which aims to produce 2,000 megawatts of solar energy within five years.
