NGOs Urge Putin to Halt Execution of Moroccan Fighter in Ukraine Conflict

In Morocco, two NGOs have written to Russian President Vladimir Putin asking him to intervene to suspend the execution of the death sentence handed down against the young pro-Ukrainian Moroccan fighter Brahim Saadoun, accused of being a mercenary.
The Association of Moroccan-Russian Friendship and the Moroccan Committee for Peace and Solidarity are the senders of the letter, reports Le360. "We consider that this young Moroccan student got involved in military operations unconsciously given the fragility of his state of mind. We request that Your Excellency intervene with the court that sentenced the young man to death so that this sentence is not carried out," they explained to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The young Moroccan Brahim Sadun as well as the Britons Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner were captured by the Russian army in Mariupol in April while fighting alongside the Ukrainian armed forces. Accused of being mercenaries, they were sentenced to death by the justice of the separatist authorities of Donetsk. In a statement to the Moroccan media, Brahim’s father assured that his son was "not a mercenary".
