National Tribute to Terror Victims Honors Mother’s Ongoing Fight Against Radicalization

Toulouse is hosting this Tuesday, March 11, the national tribute to the victims of terrorism. Latifa Ibn Ziaten, whose son Imad was murdered by Mohamed Merah 13 years ago, is an active figure in the fight against radicalization and the promotion of living together.
Latifa Ibn Ziaten regularly intervenes with various audiences to raise awareness about tolerance and the importance of living together. She considers the preservation of the memory of the victims as a key element of prevention. "We must not forget any victim," she declares to the newspaper La Dépêche.
On the prevention of radicalization, she believes that actions must be intensified, particularly on the ground, with families and in incarceration structures, advocating an intervention "at the root".
The project of a memorial museum of terrorism is, according to her, a relevant initiative. "How to remind the youth of what happened? Thanks to a place of memory," she explains, emphasizing the educational interest of such a place for young people, often more receptive to digital tools.
In her encounters, Latifa Ibn Ziaten notes a feeling of exclusion in many young people. "Many young people confide to me that they do not feel at home," she reports. She also observes the departure of young graduates who do not feel recognized in France.
She explains that her commitment is motivate
