Nasser Zefzafi threatens
Nasser Zefzafi sets a 72-hour ultimatum to the prosecution before starting a hunger and thirst strike. The detainee demands the immediate arrest of the authors of a video threatening him with death, an official complaint that has remained unanswered, now putting his safety at risk.
The leader of the Hirak of the Rif, incarcerated in the Tanger 2 prison, announced this Friday, December 5, his intention to resort to escalation. Nasser Zefzafi, sentenced to twenty years in prison, said he would begin an open strike of water and food if the public prosecutor’s office does not intervene against the individuals who threatened to physically eliminate him. He also plans other forms of protest upon the expiration of this deadline.
The case concerns a video circulated on social media a few weeks ago. A group wearing uniforms attributed to the US Army made threats of liquidation against the detainee. The US Embassy reacted by denying any link between its regular forces and the people filmed, stating that the clothing resembled that of the Marines.
An official complaint was filed on November 17 with the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Tangier. In a message transmitted by his brother Tarik, Zefzafi criticizes the speed of processing of simple criminal cases by the prosecution, which he opposes to the silence reserved for his request. He claims that justice will not be served as long as this situation persists.
