Mysterious Water Sources Emerge in Drought-Stricken Morocco After Deadly Earthquake

Moroccans continue to seek an explanation for the appearance of clear water sources and waterfalls in arid areas after the devastating earthquake that struck the Al Haouz region.

A currently unexplainable geological phenomenon occurred after the powerful earthquake that hit the Al Haouz region on September 8 and killed nearly 3,000 people. Waterfalls and springs have appeared in the most arid places, and several dried-up sources in Al-Haouz and Ouarzazate have regained water, to the delight of the population and with a positive impact on the local economy.

To have such an amount of water in Morocco, which has been experiencing severe drought for several years, a lot of rain is needed, explain some residents of the region who are convinced that the earthquake is the origin of this geological phenomenon. Several geology specialists seem to confirm this hypothesis, noting that the cracks and fractures that occurred during the earthquake caused the upwelling of water stored in the porous rocks.

At the same time, this influx of water in quantity has destroyed crops, forcing the inhabitants of the region to rebuild and adapt the irrigation systems to these new water sources.
