Mysterious Illness Strikes Moroccan Dromedaries, Veterinary Officials Investigate

The mysterious disease that has caused the death of many dromedaries in Zagora and M’hamid El Ghizlane has been almost identified.
The agents of the veterinary division of Zagora, attached to the regional directorate of the National Office of Sanitary Safety of Food Products (ONSSA), are conducting an in-depth health investigation to diagnose the mysterious disease affecting dromedaries in the areas of M’hamid El Ghizlane and Zagora. They have traveled to various remote areas and taken blood samples from sick dromedaries to conduct laboratory analyses to determine the nature of the disease and administer the necessary treatments. They have also questioned the owners and breeders about the conditions of infection of the dromedaries and the observed symptoms.

In a statement to Al3omk, informed sources said that the initial data and research suggest that the disease that has affected the dromedaries resembles what the breeders call the "Dabab" disease. They assure that the disease is not contagious and does not cause concern. It is expected that the disease will soon be brought under control after the laboratory analyses are carried out and all the data is examined, the same sources are convinced.
Due to the speed with which this disease has spread to different areas, some breeders have given herbs and turned to traditional treatments, such as cauterization, to try to save the sick dromedaries. For their part, tourism professionals in the region, who own dromedaries and use them to organize excursions for tourists, also express concerns.
They fear losing even more livestock, which could affect the tourism activity, an essential source of income for many families, this period coinciding with an increase in tourist bookings during the month of October.
