A man broke into the mosque in Mantes-la-Ville (Yvelines), rue des Merisiers, before stealing the cash box containing the money donated by the faithful.
The events most likely took place last Saturday around 10 a.m., according to the president of the mosque, who added that the suspect was surprised near the reception before fleeing.
The initial findings reveal a disappearance of around 1,500 euros, in cash, reports the site 78actu, noting that the president of the mosque had reported another theft of 2,000 euros a few days earlier.
The suspect, a 40-year-old man, was arrested by the police and placed in custody. However, no sum was found on him.
