Morocco's World Cup Success Fueled by Diaspora Talent

Morocco owes much of its historic World Cup run in Qatar to its dual national players such as Achraf Hakimi, Hakim Ziyech, Sofyan Amrabat, Noussair Mazraoui, Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, Bilal El Khannouss, Sofiane Boufal, etc., who proudly and honorably defended the colors of the kingdom until reaching the semifinals of the competition.

The role of these dual national players, who are part of the Moroccan diaspora estimated at 5 million, in the epic of the Moroccan team at the World Cup in Qatar, has been highlighted in a study published by the Policy Center For The New South (PCNS) cited by TelQuel, noting the decisive contribution of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) to the development of Morocco in all sectors.

These MREs are the pride of Morocco and all Moroccans, in the sense that they contribute to the influence of the kingdom to which they remain strongly attached to its values, as well as to the enrichment of their host countries in the fields of economy, science, culture and sport. In recent years, several Moroccan footballers have managed to make a name for themselves in European championships, particularly in France, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, etc.

The attachment and love of MREs for their country of origin explain their professionalism, their combativeness and their solidarity on the field during the World Cup in Qatar, analyzes the PCNS in its study, also noting that the remittances of MREs to Morocco reached more than 100 billion dirhams in 2022 and that Moroccan doctors, engineers, and scientists are counted by the thousands in the world.
