Morocco Welcomes Nearly 1,900 New Year’s Day Babies, UNICEF Reports

1,879 babies were born in Morocco on January 1, 2018, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in a report on the number of births worldwide.
In this estimate published in the form of a table on its website, UNICEF estimates the number of births worldwide at 395,072. As examples, India saw the birth of 69,000 babies, China 44,940 while only three children were born in the Seychelles. Closer to home, Algeria saw 2,407 children born on January 1, Tunisia 516 and Egypt 7,099.
Who says births also says deaths. According to UNICEF, 7,000 babies will die every day in the world and 80% of these deaths are preventable (sepsis, pneumonia or complications during childbirth). It is therefore essential to invest in the training of health professionals and in equipment, advises UNICEF.
Most of the babies born in Morocco on January 1st can hope to live until 2096!
