Morocco Weighs School Reopening Options as COVID-19 Cases Rise

The government is still keeping the suspense on the teaching model to be adopted this year. This uncertainty is causing panic among parents just days before the start of the school year, which coincides with the worrying increase in new infections.
Face-to-face or distance learning? The government has not yet decided. This decision is worrying parents, teachers and private school managers. According to the daily Al Massae, the epidemiological situation seems to favor the continuation of distance learning, causing anxiety among parents.
Pending the government’s decision, the Ministry of Education has committed to guaranteeing the right to education for students, in compliance with the health standards set by the authorities.
If for the time being, distance learning is dreaded by all the players in the education sector, some observers believe that it could be combined with face-to-face classes.
Since the appearance of the virus on Moroccan territory, the government had imposed distance learning on students, after the closure of all schools in order to curb the transmission of the virus. This decision had at the time sparked a controversy among parents over the obligation to pay the full rate while the courses were given online.
