Morocco Weighs Ramadan Prayer Restrictions Amid COVID-19 Concerns

Between fear of a new lockdown and the risk of contamination, Moroccans are wondering whether the Tarawih prayer will be performed in mosques during Ramadan in these times of Covid-19. Even though the vaccination campaign against the coronavirus is in full swing, the risks of contamination are not negligible.
A few weeks before Ramadan, rumors are circulating about the performance of the Tarawih prayers in mosques. Concern has immediately seized many Moroccans. Since such gatherings could lead to a resurgence of Covid-19 cases, which could once again plunge the country into lockdown.
For now, the restrictive measures taken by the authorities to curb the coronavirus and its variants are still in effect. Only the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs is authorized to decide on the performance of the Tarawih prayers in mosques during the holy month of Ramadan. This ministry has not yet made any decision.
