Morocco Weighs Decision on Ramadan Mosque Prayers Amid COVID-19 Concerns

While Saudi Arabia has decided that Tarawih prayers will be limited to a maximum of 30 minutes and reserved for men in mosques this year due to the health crisis related to the coronavirus, Morocco has not, for the moment, made a decision in this direction. The month of Ramadan will begin on April 13.
Will Tarawih prayers take place this year in mosques during the month of Ramadan in Morocco? This is the question that many Moroccans are asking, as the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs has not yet spoken on the subject. "It is still early to pronounce on the holding or not of Tarawih during this Ramadan 2021," says a government source to Le360. "It will all depend on the epidemiological situation in the country," he specified.
As of March 18, the Covid-19 assessment in Morocco shows 491,062 cases of contamination, 478,453 recoveries, 8,751 deaths. The epidemiological situation in the country seems reassuring. But Moroccans fear a second lockdown in case they are allowed to perform Tarawih prayers in mosques during the holy month of Ramadan.
