Morocco Weighs Decision on Eid El-Fitr Prayer Amid COVID-19 Concerns

Many Moroccans are awaiting the government’s decision on whether or not to allow the Eid El-Fitr prayer in mosques. The tarawih prayers had been banned during Ramadan.
A ban on the Eid El-Fitr prayer in sight? The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs is awaiting a complete and accurate report from the technical and scientific committee on the health situation in the kingdom, reports Assabah. Only this report will be decisive in making a decision.
Once transmitted, this report will be discussed among members of the government, including the Head of Government, the Ministers of the Interior and Health. It is only during this restricted meeting that a decision will be made. The Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs will then be responsible for making this decision public through a press release. According to the same sources, some ministers fear a resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic if gatherings are allowed.
