Morocco Warns of ’Worrying’ COVID Surge as British Variant Cases Rise

The Moroccan authorities are warning about the epidemiological situation which they consider "worrying" in the Kingdom with the discovery of at least 73 cases of the British variant of the coronavirus.
During the Cabinet meeting held on Thursday by videoconference, the Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb, noted the "worrying" nature, over the past two weeks, of the epidemiological situation in Morocco where more than 73 cases of the British variant of the coronavirus have already been counted.
According to Minister Ait Taleb, the situation is marked by a rather alarming increase in positive coronavirus cases, particularly in the Casablanca-Settat region, which alone accounts for half (50%) of the positive cases recorded in the Kingdom, with a positivity rate of 12% against 4.2% nationally.
In view of the situation, the government announces that it wants to take the necessary measures during the month of Ramadan but this, at the end of the ongoing consultations with the scientific committee. These measures, reassures Ait Taleb, aim to preserve the health of citizens and the economic situation of the country. He also called on his fellow citizens not to give in to rumors and false news circulating on the issue.
