Morocco Warns Against Unproven COVID-19 ’Miracle Cures’ on Social Media

At a time when Covid-19 infection cases are multiplying in certain cities of the kingdom, "miracle cures" are being offered to Moroccans as a panacea or preventive measure. A general practitioner calls for vigilance.
An Iraqi doctor of medicine would be behind the online sale of these "miracle cures" presented in the form of medicinal tablets or vitamins, reports Assabah. On one of the prescriptions signed by a gynecologist, it is written: "In case of symptoms, do not go to the hospital emergency room at all, stay at home and just respect the doses prescribed here, drinking a lot of water and gargling with hot water and salt for five minutes. And above all, don’t forget to share this formula," the same source specifies.
The medical community in Morocco is outraged by the sale of these "magic potions". Dr. Salah-Eddine Rekalia, a general practitioner, says that these prescriptions do not contain any remedy against the coronavirus. According to the specialist, there is only one drug in this "potion". It is an antibacterial. Without a medical prescription, its consumption, he points out, can cause dangerous side effects for the patient’s health. Dr. Salah-Eddine assures that the rest of the "potion" is paracetamol and vitamins, with no effect on the coronavirus.
"Paracetamol alone can be dangerous. At more than 3 or 4 g per day, at a maximum of 1 g per dose, the drug follows another metabolic pathway that leads to a toxic intermediate. This intermediate will accumulate in the liver and lead to the destruction of liver cells. The liver can no longer perform its functions," explains the doctor, who calls on the population to be vigilant.
