Morocco Warns EU of Security Threats from Iranian Drones in North Africa

During his intervention at the political assembly of the European People’s Party, held on November 21 and 22 in Valletta (Malta), Lahcen Haddad, representative of the Istiqlal Party, warned against the growing security threats in the Maghreb region, including the use of Iranian drones and missiles by the Polisario.
As a member of the Moroccan delegation to these proceedings, Lahcen Haddad called on the European Union and the European People’s Party to take a firm stance on this issue to ensure stability in North Africa and the Mediterranean basin. He also highlighted Morocco’s leadership in the field of renewable energies, stressing the need to develop strategic partnerships with multinationals like Total Energies to produce green hydrogen.
Haddad also mentioned the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline, a mega-project that will help improve access to energy sources in West Africa and regional development. He did not fail to address the joint organization of the 2030 World Cup in football by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, noting that this global sporting event is an opportunity to strengthen cultural and political ties and international cooperation.
Mustapha Baitas, representative of the Rassemblement national des indépendants (RNI) party at this assembly, in turn called for strengthening cooperation between the European Union and Morocco, particularly in the field of migration. Baitas also highlighted Morocco’s central role in renewable energy and its potential to ensure the development of green hydrogen.
