Morocco Warns Ryanair Over Domestic Flight Ticket Sales in Foreign Currency

Questioned about the "repercussions of the sale of tickets for domestic flights in foreign currencies by the private airline Ryanair", the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, acknowledged that the Irish low-cost airline did not comply with the terms of the license granted to it in November.
Ryanair did not comply with the conditions for selling tickets for domestic flights in local currency (dirham), although it had committed to doing so when the license was granted on November 24, 2023 to connect 9 Moroccan airports, Abdeljalil said in his response to a written question from Driss Sentissi, head of the parliamentary group of the Popular Movement.
The Minister of Transport and Logistics specified that the airline had reiterated its commitment to respect this condition in a letter addressed to the ministry on November 29, 2023. But the ministry found "that ticket sales were only possible through Moroccan international bank cards and in foreign currencies, which goes against the company’s commitment".
The ministry has reminded the Irish low-cost airline to order. In a letter dated March 29, 2024, it asked Ryanair to respect its commitments, under penalty of having its license withdrawn within one month. After this formal notice, the company began selling tickets in Moroccan dirhams, Abdeljalil assured.
Deputy Driss Sentissi also asked what measures the ministry plans to take to guarantee the rights of the airline’s customers who had purchased their tickets in foreign currencies.
