Morocco Waives Professional Tax for Hotels in 2021-2022 to Boost Tourism Recovery

Thanks to the signing of an agreement between the government, the National Federation of the Tourism Industry (FNIH) and the National Confederation of Tourism (CNT), tourist accommodation establishments will no longer have to pay the professional tax for 2021 and 2022. What about the terms of application?
The State is now covering the professional tax, a measure regularly demanded by tourism companies hard hit by the health crisis related to Covid-19. Only tourist accommodation establishments: hotels, guesthouses, tourist residences, guest houses, kasbahs, pensions, holiday villages, campsites can benefit from this measure, according to L’Économiste. Tourist restaurants, tourism transport companies, as well as travel agencies are therefore not concerned. Accommodation establishments that have already paid this tax or paid dividends in 2020 are also not affected by this measure.
To benefit from this measure this year, accommodation establishments must apply before May 2 next. They must produce a sworn statement not to pay dividends in 2021 or 2022 and confirm that they did not pay any in 2020, it is specified. The FNIH, through its regional associations, and the CNT are responsible for identifying the eligible companies and transmitting the list with the tax item number before May 15. A steering committee, co-chaired by the Minister of Tourism and the Minister of Budget, has also been set up to ensure the governance of the system.
