Morocco Vows to Protect Expat Children from Foreign Custody Battles

Actions will be taken to counter the problems related to the withdrawal of custody of the children of Moroccan nationals by the social services of various European countries, promised the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita.
During bilateral meetings with European governments, Bourita insisted on the need to take into account the cultural context of Moroccans living abroad and to involve consular social services in the resolution of family problems, prior to any recourse to justice.
Responding to a written question from Deputy Farida Khniti of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), Bourita highlighted the main obstacle: the lack of understanding, by some Moroccans, of the laws of their host country and of the rights of the child, according to al3omk. Cultural differences and distinct educational methods can also exacerbate this problem.
Finally, the minister stressed the strict nature of the legislation of many European countries, which pay particular attention to the protection and well-being of children, in particular through financial measures such as "family allowances". These provisions aim to ensure the education, health care and leisure of children, in order to allow them to grow and learn in a serene environment.
