Morocco’s Voluntary Return Program Aids Over 11,000 Migrants Since 2005

A total of 11,300 migrants have benefited from the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) Program since 2005. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Moroccan Government are in charge.
This Program assists an average of 1,500 distressed and vulnerable migrants each year who wish to voluntarily return to their country of origin but cannot do so for lack of means, reports PanoraPost.com. The same source indicates that 76% of them come from the eight targeted nationalities.
These figures were communicated during an international seminar on capacity building for sustainable reintegration. These proceedings were organized last week in Rabat by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Ministry in charge of Moroccans Residing Abroad and Migration Affairs.
In addition, a project is supporting the AVRR Program. This is the Foras, which offers the most vulnerable and distressed migrants who wish to voluntarily return to their countries of origin the possibility of a safe, dignified and human rights-respecting return and reintegration.
Launched in September 2017, this project has assisted 1,385 AVRR-registered beneficiaries in better understanding the challenges and opportunities of reintegration in their countries of origin through awareness-raising sessions.
