Morocco Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Public Space Encroachments

Morocco is intensifying operations to free the public domain. New campaigns have been launched in certain regions of the kingdom.
More operations to free the public domain. Two campaigns were carried out under the direction of an authority. They involved the participation of authority agents, territorial guard elements and the rapid intervention service. The first targeted the entrance to the Chohada cemetery leading to the Soleiman Palace under the jurisdiction of this annex, including three tents erected by some bric-a-brac sellers that the authority had already removed, but which the persons concerned had reinstalled, reports Kech24. The informal market located at the martyrs’ cemetery, behind the Bab Doukkala taxi station, was not spared. This operation resulted in the seizure of 28 crates filled with various types of vegetables, in addition to the seizure of 78 empty crates, as well as the seizure of two hand carts that were destroyed on the spot with a bulldozer. Two trucks of bric-a-brac and scrap metal were seized and three tents were removed.
The second campaign targeted Taqaddoum Street, which has been illegally occupied by vendors for about ten years. At the end of the operation, a set of women’s underwear, a set of shop signs, as well as mannequins used for the display of women’s clothing were seized. Similarly, an old cart fixed in the cement and bricks used by a cobbler for more than 10 years, as well as about 20 iron drums filled with cement and fixed to the sidewalk to occupy the public space, were removed.
