Morocco’s Vaccine Factory Equipment Arrives: Major Step Towards Pharmaceutical Independence

The ship that transported the various modules of the industrial unit for the manufacture of vaccines, including Covid-19 vaccines, in Benslimane, arrived on Sunday at the port of Casablanca.
Coming from Shanghai, China, the contents of this cargo will allow the assembly of the biotechnology unit, the launch ceremony of which was launched by King Mohammed VI on January 27. It is 111 pieces of equipment for a total weight of 35,000 tons, which will be transported to Benslimane for the finalization of the project.
Named "Sensyo Pharmatech", this Benslimane production unit is one of the rarest on the African continent and will allow Morocco to acquire vaccine sovereignty. Its mission is to make available to the health system, vials of vaccines, injectable medicines. Its implementation will give a boost to national know-how, especially in public health.
According to the technicians, the Benslimane factory is vast and has a very large production capacity. It is the dream carried by King Mohammed VI and which several local partners have believed in and are working to deliver on time.
In a statement to the press on the occasion of the arrival at the port of Casablanca of the ship transporting the modules of the Benslimane vaccine manufacturing industrial unit, Marc Funk, CEO of Sensyo Pharmatech and Recipharm, indicated that "the arrival of this ship marks a very important first step in the realization of this large-scale project".
The Benslimane project consists of setting up a factory for the manufacture and filling of vaccines (anti-Covid and other vaccines), with 3 industrial lines whose combined production capacity will reach 116 million units in 2024. This pharmaceutical unit must mobilize an investment of around 400 to 500 million euros in the long term.
